This website is here to support you, share what we have learned, and make it easier to reach us. It is not counseling itself. Please read this disclaimer before relying on anything you find here.

Educational content, not treatment
The articles, guides, worksheets, and other resources on this website are written to inform and support. They are general in nature and are not a substitute for diagnosis, treatment, or advice from a qualified professional who knows your situation.
Mental health research and best practice change over time. Articles reflect our understanding when they were published and may not cover every circumstance.
When a counseling relationship begins
Reading this website, signing up for the newsletter, sending a message, or having a free 15-minute consult call does not create a counselor-client relationship. That relationship begins only after an appointment is confirmed and you have completed and signed our intake and informed consent documents.
No guaranteed outcomes
Counseling can bring real relief, clarity, and change, but everyone’s path is different. Progress depends on many things, including your circumstances and the fit between you and Dr. Penny. We cannot promise any specific result or timeline. Testimonials on this site describe individual experiences, and yours may be different.
About faith-based counseling
Faith-based counseling is professional counseling that includes your faith only if you want it to. Prayer, scripture, readings, or rituals are used only at your request. Clients of any tradition, or none, are welcome, and nobody is asked to share or adopt particular beliefs. Faith-based counseling is not a replacement for spiritual direction or pastoral care from your own faith community.

Confidentiality and its limits
What you share in counseling is kept confidential. The law sets a few important exceptions, for example when:
- there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else;
- we suspect abuse or neglect of a child, an older adult, or a dependent adult;
- a court orders us to release information.
Dr. Penny will explain these limits in full at intake. They are also described in our Notice of Privacy Practices.
Email, forms, and video
Website forms and regular email are convenient, but they are not fully secure. Please keep messages brief and leave out sensitive health details. Video sessions take place on a secure platform. As with any technology, there is a small risk of technical problems or interruptions, and your counselor will discuss a backup plan with you.
